PLYOMETRIC BOXES
Jump Workouts and Plyometric Boxes
Are you planning to undergo explosive jump training or speed training? Are you looking into a plyometric workout routine as an option? Then you should consider reviewing plyometric boxes, also known as jump boxes. These plyometrics boxes are considered as essential training equipment if you want to increase the height of your vertical jump, your sprinting time, your agility or your explosiveness. Plyometric boxes are considered as important parts of any plyometric workout routine because plyometric exercises not only involve your body weight, they also use gravity to help develop your muscles.
There are many kinds of plyometrics boxes available. Wooden plyometric boxes are by far the most popular. There are also jump boxes of solid steel construction. There are some that allow you to change the height of the platform and they are dubbed as adjustable plyometric boxes. If you are rather short of funds, you can lookup cheap plyometric boxes in sports shops and over the internet. Another option is for you to learn how to make plyometric boxes.
Building plyometric boxes is fairly easy. You simply need to determine the size and height of the jump box that you want to make. Generally, jump boxes have straight sides that are 20 inches high and a base that is 17.5 inches wide. Plyometric box platforms are typically as wide as the base. There are also angled jump boxes. The only difference they have from regular plyometric boxes is their base are wider than the platform by 6 inches. The advantage of plyometrics boxes that have angled sides is they can support greater load. Woodworking may prove to be more difficult with angled jump boxes but they can be stacked on top of each other for storage.
The next step in building plyometric boxes involves the purchase of a 3/4 inch plywood that is big enough to be cut to 4 side panels and a top piece. Having multiple sheets is definitely an option. You will then simply need to assemble the pieces using wood glue and drywall screws. Practically, these are all the steps that will make you build plyometric boxes.
There are some points that you will need to remember in building plyometric boxes. You can cut out holes on the sides of the panels to serve as handles. You can also glue a rubber mat on top of the platform to lengthen the service life of your jump box. If you are not familiar with power tools and woodworking, better not attempt this kind of project as poor construction and improper assembly can easily lead to serious injuries.
