The Jump of an NBA Super Star
I don’t know about you but I remember thinking the Michael Jordan could defy the laws of gravity when he went in for a dunk. It seemed as though he was actually flying instead of jumping as he floated toward the basket. What if I told you that you could train yourself to jump higher? I can’t promise you that you will be as great as Mike but I can promise you will increase your vertical.
Through specific exercises and training you can improve your vertical. There are exercises that can be done that will increase the muscle strength in your legs and help you to jump higher. By specifically strengthening the muscles utilized in jumping you can improve your jump height and overall athleticism.
Simple acts like running stairs or jumping rope can be used as a warm up in preparation for jumping exercises or as effective exercises themselves. Be sure if you use them as a warm up that you do not wear out your muscles before you even start. It is also very important that you stretch before you begin your warm ups and exercises.
There are some specific exercises that you can perform to help you increase your jump height. One of these exercises is the deep knee bend. In this exercise you strengthen your legs by repeatedly squatting and rising back up. You can also use toe raises to help improve your jump. Toe raises involve raising your legs up until you can touch your toe with your finger while standing. You repeat the exercise over and over alternating legs.
It might be surprising but another exercise that will help you to jump higher is stomach crunches. Be sure that you do not confuse crunches with full sit ups, sit ups are not as effective in helping you jump higher. When doing a crunch you keep your back flat on the ground and raise you shoulders off the floor. Having a strong core can help a great deal when it comes to jumping higher.
These are just some basic exercises that will help you start to improve your vertical. There are specific workouts routines that are geared toward helping you jump higher. Even though these routines are specifically geared toward helping jump higher they will not instantly improve your vertical. It will take hard work and dedication on your part to optimize your results. If you put in the time and effort who knows one day you may just jump like an NBA super star.
